EC sends notice to Adityanath over ‘Kejriwal feeding Shaheen Bagh biryani’ comment

EC issued a notice to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for violation of the Model Code of Conduct over his remark on Kejriwal in Delhi rally.

New Delhi| The EC notice came after Delhi elections campaigning ended was on a remark made by Yogi Adityanath that “Kejriwal is feeding biryani in Shaheen Bagh”.

Adityanath at a New Delhi rally on Saturday alleged that those who support terrorists in Kashmir are staging the protest at Shaheen Bagh and raising slogans of ‘aazadi’.

The BJP is working with zero tolerance towards terrorism. But Kejriwal is busy sponsoring and offering biryani in Shaheen Bagh,” he said.

“These protests happening at various places in Delhi are not about the CAA, but it is happening because those people are questioning as to how can India emerge as a major power in the world, and to stop that rising India,” he claimed.

Taking note of the comment, the Election Commission has asked the UP CM to reply by 5 pm on February 7.

Hundreds, including women and children, have been protesting since 15 December at Delhi’s Shaheen Bagh against the CAA and the proposed National Register of Citizens (NRC).

The controversial and communal slogan of shooting dead the country’s traitors were chanted again, this time a roadshow involving Union Home Minister Amit Shah campaigning on behalf of Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga, the BJP’s Hari Nagar candidate. The EC had earlier banned junior finance minister Anurag Thakur from campaigning after the controversial slogan was chanted at a rally in Rithala attended by him.

Addressing another poll rally at Karawal Nagar Chowk in east Delhi last week, the BJP leader had lashed out at anti-CAA protesters, saying “their ancestors divided India, so they have a grouse against this emerging ‘ek Bharat shrestha Bharat‘”.
West Delhi MP Verma had last week said that what happened in Kashmir with Kashmiri Pandits could happen in Delhi, warning that lakhs of anti-CAA protesters in Shaheen Bagh could enter people’s homes to rape and kill women.
