“Fake News”: Gujarat Police Rejects Reports Of Bhavnagar Hindus Being Forced To Vacate Houses By Muslims

Amid reports of around 15 flat owners residing in Satvik housing Complex in Bhavnagar’s Mokhadji circle area being threatened by Muslims to sell their houses, the Gujarat police today rubbished the news as “fake”, and said they have initiated legal proceedings against a daily newspaper which ran the story first.

Earlier, apart from a few web portals, right-wing website OpIndia and the RSS’ mouthpiece Panchjanya had claimed that Muslim men entered the society and threatened the Hindu residents to vacate their houses or face consequences, citing the story by one Gujarati daily.

The Gujarati daily named DeshGujarat, in its story, had claimed that “a mob of 100-150 Muslim men entered the society and threatened the residents by selectively targeting some flat owners by enticing and forcing them to sell their flats”. It also added that the residents of Satvik Complex in front of Rajaram Aveda have alleged that a mob of 100-150 Muslim men arrived at night to threaten them to sell their flats or face the consequences for not budging. The mob allegedly threatened the residents that they know everything about the occupations of each of them and they will have to pay the price if they are not ready to sell their houses, the report claimed. The report also said that the mob has given an ultimatum to the residents to get convinced for selling their flats, or else be ready to face dire consequences.

The Bhavnagar Police, taking to its Twitter handle on Wednesday, referred to the news and said that no such incident has taken place in the city.

“A daily news paper has published article about ‘Hindu Residents being threatened by mob of Muslims to sell their flats in Bhavnagar’. No such incident has taken place in city. Police has initiated a legal inquiry and notice has been issued,” the Bhavnagar police said.

The DGP of Gujarat police, quote tweeting the clarification by the Gujarat police, wrote: “A case of fake news.”
