Finance Minister missing as PM Modi meets Industrialists and Economists ahead of Budget

Congress leader Shashi Tharoor took it to Twitter, saying, “Where is the Finance Minister? Or has the Duo forgotten they have one?”

 

New Delhi| Ahead of the crucial Budget 2020, Prime Minister Narendra modi several top industrialists and business tycoons on Monday. The top industrialists included Mukesh Ambani, Ratan Tata, Anand Mahindra, Gautam Adani etc.

The meet was significant as it comes amidst the massive Indian Economic Slowdown. There have been suggestions from the business community to create a favourable environment for businesses in the country. The meeting with industry leaders was aimed at receiving inputs to boosting the economy.

On Monday evening, PM Modi attended the centenary event of Kirloskar Brothers. Here, he addressed the Business community again and asked them to invest without fear. He also stressed that govt actions against few corrupt businesses shouldn’t be termed as Government crackdown on the industry. Speaking of reviving the animal spirit in the Indian corporate sector, he said that the government is ready to walk shoulder to shoulder with them.

Two days after the meet, PM Modi on Thursday met top economists of the country at Niti Aayog. The meeting was attended by Home minister Amit Shah, Railway Minister Piyush Goyal and Minister of Road Transport & Highways Nitin Gadkari.

However, in both the meetings Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman remained missing. Several critics pointed out that ahead of budget PM Modi himself is intervening in the matter and talking to Business Community whereas FM Nirmala Sitharaman who has received flak over the falling economy is missing from the scene.

Congress leader Shashi Tharoor took it to Twitter, saying, “Where is the Finance Minister? Or has the Duo forgotten they have one?”

In another tweet, he again asked whether the Finance Minister has been indisposed.

After widespread criticism, the pictures showing Sitharaman at a meeting with BJP office-bearers were released. Finance Minister met BJP’s office bearers, spokespersons, morchas and other party organizations at party office, on union budget consultations.
