FM Sitharaman Smiles Her Way Out When Asked About Fuel Prices

In a Cabinet Briefing, Sitharaman was asked whether the direct benefits will be transferred to consumers after the fall in crude oil prices.

Delhi| Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman along with I&B Minister Prakash Javadekar and Railways and Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal held a press briefing on Friday to address important cabinet decisions.

Before the end of the briefing, a reporter from The Hindu asked FM Sitharaman about the fall in prices of crude oil globally and whether the government will provide the direct benefits of that to end consumers.

The crude oil prices have fallen by a record of $30 per barrel after the stand-off between Saudi Arabi and Russia, two of the largest crude oil exporters in the world. Percentage-wise, it’s the highest fall in prices of crude oil since the Gulf war began in 1991.

Reacting to the question, Sitharaman smiled briefly at the journalist, looked away and then walked out with her colleagues.

Internet could not keep its calm after the video went viral.

Congress leader Shashi Tharoor also took a sly dig at Sitharaman on his Twitter handle.
