Fodder scam: RJD chief Lalu Yadav surrenders before Special CBI court

Ranchi | Rashtriya Janta Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav on Thursday surrendered before the Special CBI court in Ranchi related to the Bihar fodder scam in which he is convicted.

Abhishek Manu Singhvi who was appearing for Yadav requested an extension of provisional bail for three months for the treatment of anal abscess, kidney stone and enlarged prostate glands. However, the CBI opposed the request saying,” Yadav has already taken about three months of parole for his treatment.” RJD chief will be taken to Birsa Munda Jail in Ranchi and later the Jail doctors will decide whether he should be admitted to the hospital or to be admitted in the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Science (RIIMS). After the surrender lawyer Prabhat Jha informed media that doctors of Asian Heart Institute (Mumbai) will do a check up of Lalu Prasad Yadav and then inform Court about his condition

Earlier the Jharkhand High Court rejected the bail extension plea filed by the RJD chief and ordered him to surrender before the court till August 30. Speaking to media before his surrender Yadav said, that he is completely innocent and have full faith in the Judiciary.

When asked about his illness Yadav said, “He is not completely right about his illness”. He further added that he has no interest in sleeping in the hospital. Lalu Yadav was earlier admitted in the Asain Heart Institute for his treatment.

Lalu Yadav has been convicted in four cases of multi-crore rupees fodder scam related to illegal withdrawal of money from government treasuries in different districts for the animal husbandry department in Bihar in 1990. Yadav has been awarded 14 years of imprisonment in the fodder scam.
