Former Bhutan PM lashes out at Indian media for using wrong photograph

Thimphu | Former Bhutan Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay slammed the Indian media for misidentifying their current PM Dr Lotay Tshering.

Lotay Tshering, Prime Minister of Bhutan, arrived in India on Thursday for the swearing-in of Prime Minister-Narendra Modi.

Tobgay, former PM of Bhutan, took to Twitter to point out this blunder by sharing two pictures as examples.

“India’s media would be up in arms if any other country got the picture of their PM wrong. Yet they continue to embarrass themselves and insult us when it comes to identifying our PM”, Tobgay wrote.

“Bhutan may be small, but she is India’s close neighbour and a very close friend”, he added.

Later, Indian users apologised to him on the media’s behalf.

He later shared a photo of the current PM for reference.

“My thanks to the many Indians for the outpouring of support and understanding. Attached is a photo of PM Dr Lotay Tshering for the media’s ready reference. The pictures used are of former PM (yours truly) and Chief Advisor of Interim Government (Chief Justice Tshering Wangchuk)”.

India and Bhutan have always enjoyed close diplomatic and strategic relations. In 2014, PM Narendra Modi’s first overseas diplomatic trip was to Bhutan.
