New Delhi | Veteran Bollywood actor and former Samajwadi Party leader Jaya Prada officially joined the Bhartiya Janata Party(BJP) today in New Delhi at the party headquarters.
It is likely that she will be contesting from the Rampur constituency in Uttar Pradesh.
Jaya Prada joined the party in the presence of BJP General Secretary Bhupendra Yadav and Rajya Sabha MP Anil Baluni.
“This is a significant moment for me. Be it cinema or politics, I have worked with all my heart and dedicated my life to it. Thankful to the BJP for this respect,” Jaya Prada told the media.
She praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, “Today I am working with that brave leader in whose hands the country feels safe … PM Modi. I thank the BJP and Amit Shah for this”.
Prada has already won the Lok Sabha seat twice from Rampur, in 2009 and 2014.
She will be contesting against Azam Khan, a senior Samajwadi Party leader. They have an infamous feud.
Jaya Prada was initially in the Telugu Dasam Party(TDP) when she joined politics, in 1994.
The former actor has worked in a number of south Indian films like Telugu, Kannada and Tamil and also in Bengali, Marathi and Hindi films.
