Mumbai | Congress spokesperson Gourav Vallabh on Friday hit out at the Modi government and claimed that they are treating “cancer with balm”.
Speaking at a media briefing, he demanded a white paper on the economy.
Gourav Vallabh hit out at the BJP for the slowdown in the economy. Pointing out that manufacturing growth has reduced from 12% to 0.6%, he said that demand and consumption are also at 15 year low.
Terming the RBI transfer of Rs 1.76 trillion to the government as a “loot”, he said,” Government has looted the RBI. They are not giving us a clear picture of where and how will they use the money”.
“From January 610 farmers committed suicide due to loan pending 589.59 crore of sugarcane farmers”, he stated.
Gourav Vallabh also spoke on the Chief Minister’s job welfare scheme. “The Make in Maharashtra got an 8 lakh crore investment and 30 lakh jobs. The Chief Minister’s employment generation scheme targetted 7 lakh jobs. However, none of this is visible on the ground”, he said.
He said that if the Centre gets questioned on the economy and sales, “they point towards ola uber”, in an apparent reference to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman blaming the decrease in auto sales on “Millenials using Ola and Uber”.
Accusing the Centre of indulging in a “headline management”, he demanded that they should instead bring a package to revive the economy.
BJP Ministers have blamed the Indian economy on the global recession and US-China trade war.
“It is not a global recession. Even in 2008, there was a recession. Big American companies collapsed but India was untouched because Manmohan Singh was heading the economy”, he said.
“You have shot two bullets on the economy. First, Demonetisation- which hurt the informal economy
Second: GST- it was shot down by faulty implementation”, he claimed.
Before the Lok Sabha elections, Congress had included the NYAY scheme in its manifesto. The scheme guaranteed a minimum income of ₹6,000 per month or ₹72,000 a year.
“We talked about NYAY… It was a scheme of re monetization. Unless you make the money reach the bottom of the pyramid, economy will not revive”, he said.
