Government lied in Supreme Court about CAG report in Rafale Deal: Mallikarjun Kharge

Senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge said that no CAG report was submitted to the Parliamentary Action Committee and PAC hadn’t probed it.

New Delhi| Senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge alleged that the Narendra Modi government lied in the Supreme Court over about the Rafale deal. He said the CAG report the SC verdict mentioned was never submitted to the Public Accounts Committee.

Talking to the members of media fraternity, Kharge said, “Government lied in SC that the CAG report was presented in the house.” He further said the government misled the Supreme Court that the CAG report was presented in PAC and PAC has probed it. “Government said in SC it is in public domain. Where is it? Have you seen it? I am going to take this up with other members of PAC,” he said. Kharge said the PAC will summon AG and CAG.

On Friday, the Supreme Court ruled that there is no occasion for the court to believe that there were wrong-doings in the Rafale deal. The court also mentioned that it has no jurisdiction over the issue. Emboldened by the verdict, the BJP attacked the Congress for lying and demanded an apology from Congress president Rahul Gandhi.

However, the verdict has made the opposition more aggressive on the issue. In a press conference, the rather aggressive Rahul Gandhi reiterated his slogan “Chowkidar hi Chor Hai”. He further said that no CAG report was submitted before the Parliamentary Action Committee.
