More than 15 Gujarat MLAs to leave Congress, claims Alpesh Thakor

Ahmedabad | Former Congress MLA and Thakor Sena chief Alpesh Thakor today claimed that half of the Congress MLAs are upset with party’s leadership and nearly 15 of them will be leaving anytime soon.

Speaking to news agency ANI, Thakor said,” Everyone is distressed with the Congress party and more than half of the legislatures are upset with the party, 15 among them would be leaving the party.”

Stating the reason behind his departure from the Congress party, Alpesh Thakor said,” My people are poor & backward. They need the support of the government. I was disturbed that I couldn’t give that to my people what I had intended to.” Thakor further added that his organisation voiced their opinion that we need not be there where we don’t have respect & there’s no talk of their rights.

Rejecting the role of BJP leadership behind his resignation from Congress, Alpesh Thakor said, “It was our decision and the voice of my conscience that we don’t want to be here. We want to work for our people and the poor with the help of the government.”

Thakor’s statement has come amid reports of him joining the BJP. Sources said the Radhapur MLA had an hour-long meeting with Gujarat deputy CM Nitin Patel regarding joining the BJP. Alpesh Thakor along with two aides joined left the Congress party in April 2019.
