Haryana Rape Case: BJP MLA blames unemployment for increasing rape cases

Chandigarh | Haryana BJP lawmaker on Saturday sparked a controversy when she blamed unemployment for the increasing rape cases against women.

Responding to the question of gangrape of a 19-year-old young woman in Narnaul of Haryana’s Mahendragarh district, BJP MLA from Uchana Kalan, Premlata Singh said,”Youth who are frustrated, unemployed.. They commit such crime (rape) which is a very bad trend in the society.”

A 19-year-old woman on Wednesday who was on her way to the coaching centre was allegedly abducted and gang-raped after being drugged. The police officials on Saturday said that an serving defence personnel is the main accused in case. “The main accused is a serving defence personnel stationed in Rajasthan. We are getting a warrant against him. The other two accused will be nabbed soon,” informed BS Sandhu, the Director General of Police (DGP) of Haryana.

Speaking on the condition of the victim, Medical Superintendent Sudarshan Pawar told media, “The victim’s condition is stable and she is recovering from the trauma. Her x-ray and ultrasound reports are normal. We will continue to review her condition regularly.”
