BJP had a faulty campaign with polarizing remarks like ‘judging a person by their clothes’ and accusing Delhi CM of bribing protesters with ‘Biryani’.
New Delhi| Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga, a candidate in Delhi’s Hari Nagar, is one of several BJP leaders who’ve targeted the Shaheen Bagh protesters in public remarks in recent days.
Confident about a BJP victory in Delhi, Bagga warned of a “surgical strike” against the anti-CAA protest at Shaheen Bagh on Delhi election results day, 11 February, while he was rallying for elections. The protest, which is led by Muslim women, has become a “hub of anti-national activity”, he had tweeted.
BJP’s Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga, running for Delhi’s Hari Nagar, has lost to AAP’s Raj Kumari Dhillon with a margin of 19,642 votes.
At Rithala, in another rally led by the minister of state for finance, Anurag Thakur shouted: “desh ke gaddaron ko” to which the crowd responded, “goli maro sa*** ko” (shoot down the traitors).
From Rithala Constituency, BJP’s Manish Chaudhary was running. Chaudhary lost to AAP’s Mohinder Goyal by 13,873 votes.

“On 8th February there will be a contest between India and Pakistan on the streets of Delhi,” BJP’s Kapil Mishra had tweeted on January 23.
While speaking to about his tweet he said, “Aam Aadmi Party and Congress have created mini-Pakistans like Shaheen Bagh. In response, Hindustan will face them on February 8. Whenever the anti-nationals create a Pakistan in India, the nationalists’ Hindustan will face them.”
Kapil Mishra lost Model Town to AAP’s Akhilesh Pati Tripathi by 11,113 votes.
Amit Shah at a rally in Babarpur urged voters to “press the button with such anger that the current is felt at Shaheen Bagh.” Shah was referring to the protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act at Shaheen Bagh in the national Capital.
In Babarpur, BJP’s Naresh Gaur lost to AAP’s Gopal Rai by 27,911 votes.
Addressing a rally in Delhi on January 29, BJP leader Parvesh Verma, a Member of parliament from West Delhi Lok Sabha Constituency, compared the Delhi CM to a terrorist and said, “In Delhi, many ‘natwarlals’ and terrorists like Kejriwal are hiding. I don’t understand if we should fight with terrorists in Kashmir or with terrorist Kejriwal in Delhi.”
He had also kicked off a massive controversy after he called Shaheen Bagh protesters ‘rapists and murderers’.
With the BJP losing in all the ten seats under his West Delhi parliamentary constituency, Delhi citizens have proven their angst with hate speech by Parvesh Verma.
While the AAP kept its focus on issues of governance and highlighted the work done by the party in the last five years, BJP resorted to old strategies by the saffron party of polarizing and using ‘Pakistan’, ‘Tukde-Tukde gang’ and religion to gain votes.
