Mumbai | Mumbai Regional Congress Committee (MRCC) president Sanjay Nirupam ahead of rumours of his removal from Mumbai Congress president’s position on Monday stated that only Rahul Gandhi would decide whether he should be sacked or not.

Speaking to media Nirupam said, “I am a Rahul Gandhi loyalist and I have been appointed by him. He has ordered me to fight for the issues of the people of Mumbai, it is my duty to carry out that responsibility, and every second day I am on the streets to fight for Mumbaikars.”

Earlier rumours emerged that senior Mumbai Congress leaders during the meeting with Mallikarjun Kharge demanded the removal of Sanjay Nirupam. The leaders also recommended Milind Deora’s name as the next president of the Mumbai Congress. The reason stated behind the change of leadership is the preparation for the upcoming Lok Sabha and Assembly elections. Various leaders of Congress party expressed their concern over Nirupam’s stance on the ticket allotment and strategies during the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections.

Responding to the rumours, the Congress leader added,” I will continue doing so until the day he deems fit to replace me. That day I will duly accept that decision, but only he will decide till when I will serve as Mumbai Congress president.”
