Independent candidate drops out from Kairana Bypolls, RLD candidiate benefited

Kairana: The opposition parties on Thursday got their morale boasted as an independent candidate dropped out of the Kairana bye-elections against Tabassum Hasan, the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) candidate backed by Samajwadi Party, Congress and Nishad Party.

Kanwar Hasan dropped out of the race today and extended his support for her sister in law who is contesting on RLD’s ticket. Kanwar Hasan’s exit has made a tough fight for BJP’s Mriganka Singh as his exit stopped the division of 5 lakh Muslim votes in the by polls.

After the victory against BJP in Phulpur and Gorakhpur by-polls, the opposition believes similar success against BJP in the Kairana by-polls. Meanwhile, the BJP has also invested a lot in the by-polls and its state leaders have made it clear with their relentless campaigning.

The BJP is looking at the by-polls as a must-win affair after its loss in Phulpur and Gorakhpur by-polls and failure to form a stable government in Karnataka.

Yesterday leaders from the major opposition parties were present at HD Kumaraswamy’s oath ceremony making their bond strong against Prime Minister Narendra Modi led BJP in the upcoming 2019 election. The oath ceremony held the presence of leaders like United Progressive Alliance (UPA) chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Congress president Rahul Gandhi, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, CPI (M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury, NCP’s Sharad Pawar RLD’S Ajit Singh and Makkal Needhi Maiam chief Kamal Haasan.
