‘I was insulted again and again,’ Alpesh Thakor resigns as Congress MLA

Ahmedabad | Rebel Congress leader Alpesh Thakor today resigned as Congress MLA stating that he was insulted by the Congress leadership.

Speaking to media after the Rajya Sabha election in Gujarat assembly, Thakur said,” I joined Congress trusting Rahul Gandhi, but unfortunately he did nothing for us. We were insulted again & again. So, I have resigned from the post of Congress MLA.”

Earlier Thakur cross-voted for the BJP candidate in Rajya Sabha election along with another rebel Congress MLA Dhavalsinh Zala. Zala addressing reporters spoke similar Thakur about been insulted by the Congress party. He said,” People from Congress party were insulting us & people again & again. Leaders were not listening to small workers of the party. Considering everything, I have resigned from the post of Congress MLA.”

Prominent OBC leader from Gujarat and MLA Alpesh Thakor had quit the Congress party on Wednesday after being unhappy with the local party leadership. Though he was keen to contest from Patan Lok Sabha seat, the Congress chose former MP Jagdish Thakor.

After emerging as a prominent OBC leader in Gujarat, he had joined the Congress before the 2017 Assembly polls and won from Radhanpur seat in Patan district.
