Is Maharashtra BJP On Backfoot?

BJP

After the massive debacle of the Bhartiya Janata Party in the Lok Sabha Elections in Maharashtra, the BJP’s top brass is on backfoot ahead of the state assembly, slated to take place later in the year.

On Tuesday, the BJP’s top leadership chaired a meeting with the party’s state unit’s core committee in the national capital.

The meeting was chaired by union Home Minster Amit Shah, who was joined by party’s national chief and health minister J.P Nadda, party’s national general secretary(Org) B.L Santosh, cabinet minister Bhupendra Yadav, Ashwini Vaishnav, Piyush Goyal, DY CM Devendra Fadnavis, state chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule and other important leaders of the state.

The meeting’s central agenda was to introspect on the massive loss the saffron party suffered in the second largest state, in terms of LS seats.

The narrative of the opposition MVA, that the BJP would change the constitution, abolish reservation if it gets 400 paar along with BJP’s failure in assuring the voters and smashing the narrative that helped the MVA; were some points that were conveyed by the state leaders to the top brass.

Fadnavis To Continue: Just days after Devendra Fadnavis had taken moral responsibility of the party’s downfall and offered to step down from the DY CM post, the request was rejected by the top brass. Union Minister and Mumbai North MP Piyush Goyal clarified that there will be no organizational change and that the party would fight the Vidhan Sabha polls under the leadership of Devendra Fadnavis.

Future Of Mahayuti: The question that will the BJP will continue to be in alliance with the Shiv Sena and the NCP, was also made clear. Despite the RSS expressing its displeasure over the BJP joining hands with the NCP, and despite the state leadership accepting the fact that splitting the NCP and the Shiv Sena costed the BJP heavily in the LS polls, the BJP will still face the Vidhan Sabha elections as Mahayuti.

Besides, Union Minister and Nagpur MP, Nitin Gadkari was not present at the meeting on Tuesday.
