On Sunday, Jyotiraditya Scindia announced on his twitter that he had submitted his resignation to Rahul Gandhi. Scindia was made AICC General Secretary in-charge of Western UP. However, the party received a drubbing in the Lok Sabha elections in the state. He said that he is taking accountability and accepting people’s verdict.

Scindia’s resignation tweet came hours after Mumbai Congress President Milind Deora quit the post. Deora issued a statement indicating a “bigger national role”. He recommended setting up of a provisional collective leadership comprising three senior Congress leaders to oversee the city party unit till the Maharashtra Assembly polls which are due later this year.

This has sparked speculations of whether the party is picking young Congress leaders and moving them to the national level. Rahul Gandhi, two weeks ago at a youth congress meeting had expressed unhappiness over party leaders not taking the responsibility of the defeat. He reportedly said that even after he resigned no senior leader came forward to resign.
