Kangana Ranaut Summoned Before Court On Account of Defamation Case

Ranaut’s attorney has reportedly requested immunity from the actor’s appearance for the day.

Mumbai: The metropolitan magistrate court of Mumbai has issued a summons to actor Kangana Ranaut on accounts of defamation charges filed against by Bollywood lyricist Javed Akhtar.

Her attorney requested an exemption from the actor’s personal attendance for the day as the case was set for hearing before the Andheri metropolitan magistrate’s court on Monday.

The court then instructed Ms. Ranaut’s legal team to submit a Pursis, or written statement/information submitted to the court on any subject now before it, saying that the accused will be present at the next hearing date (July 4).

The Pursis was filed by Ms. Ranaut’s attorney, and the court allowed an exception for the next day.

The court also postponed the hearing on a motion to issue a warrant for Ms. Ranaut until the subsequent hearing.

In November 2020, Mr. Akhtar (76) brought the lawsuit, alleging that Ms. Ranaut had violated many laws. The lyricist in his petition argued that Ranaut concocted defamatory assertions against the complainant during an interview on television, that he claims purportedly damaged his goodwill.

Akhtar added that Ranaut referred to his name in connection to a notorious “clique” in Bollywood, following the unfortunate demise of actor Sushant Singh Rajput.
