Karnataka: BSP Minister in Congress-JDU government resigns after Mayawati’s statement

Bengaluru | N Mahesh, the only minister in the Congress-JD(S) coalition government in Karnataka resigned on Thursday after the announcement of independently contesting Lok Sabha poll.

In a resignation letter submitted to Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy, Mahesh cited personal reasons behind his resignation. He wrote, “I have resigned as the minister. I will continue as an MLA. I will be focusing on my constituency and to strengthen the party for the Lok Sabha polls.” N Mahesh decision has come after Mayawati announced that BSP won’t be contesting in an alliance with the Congress party in the upcoming assembly election in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.

Mahesh had also alleged that the Congress, JDS and the BJP has been “surviving on caste politics” and that BSP was here to erase such systems.

The Congress party had formed a post-poll alliance with the JDS forming a government in Karnataka. Mayawati’s BSP had formed a pre-poll alliance with HD Kumaraswamy’s Janta Dal-Secular.
