Karnataka CM HD Kumaraswamy stays away from Tipu Jayanti celebrations

Though Kumaraswamy had given a nod to Tipu Jayanti, he himself would not be attending the event.

Bengaluru| Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy will not be attending the Tipu Jayanti celebrations organized by the state government. The birth anniversary of the emperor of Mysore will be celebrated on November 10.

The Karnataka government under former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah started the tradition of celebrating the Tipu Jayanti. However, BJP in the state has been opposing it. The BJP called it a Congress strategy to appease Muslims. This year, even the people of Kodagu district have joined the opposition to the celebrations.

JD(S) when in opposition had stayed away from the Tipu Jayanti celebrations. However, this time HD Kumaraswamy had to organize the celebration under pressure from its ally in the government who enjoys more seats in the assembly than JD(S), sources say.
