Bengaluru| Maximum drama unfolded outside Hotel Renaissance in Powai after Mumbai police detained DK Shivakumar. The Karnataka Congress leader was waiting outside the hotel since morning to meet the rebel MLAs. However, despite the MLAs refusing to meet him, Shivakumar persisted and sat outside the hotel gate. He was accompanied by two former Mumbai Congress chiefs Milind Deora and Sanjay Nirupam.

Responding to the events, Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy said that the Mumbai police manhandled the minister. He took it to twitter saying, “Manhandling Ministers and MLAs are very annoying and unbecoming of #MumbaiPolice.” He further said that this proves the suspicion that BJP is involved in horse trading. Kumaraswamy called it a “black mark on the republic setup” of the country.

Former Chief Minister Kumaraswamy also slammed the BJP government in Maharashtra. He alleged the BJP of kidnapping Congress MLAs. He said that the Mumbai police is acting on the behest of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. He further said that the Congress MLAs are held hostages and their lives are under threat from BJP.

Meanwhile, two more legislators have resigned from Karnataka assembly giving a major jolt to the party. Congress MLAs Dr K Sudhakar and MTB Nagaraj resigned. They were later spotted at Raj Bhawan. On the other hand, BJP staged a protest outside Vidhan Soudha demanding resignation of HD Kumaraswamy.

The Rebel MLAs who had resigned from the Congress-JD(S) coalition in Karnataka assembly have moved the Supreme Court against the Speaker. According to the MLAs, the Speaker “abandoned his constitutional duty” and “deliberately delaying acceptance”.
The Supreme Court will hear the matter tomorrow. A bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi took note of the submission of senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi, appearing for the rebel MLAs, and assured him that it will see whether their petition can be listed for an urgent hearing tomorrow.
