Karnataka Minister Joins BJP, Soon After Resigning From Congress

Bengaluru: Former Karnataka Minister Pramod Madhwaraj joined the BJP on Saturday in the presence of Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, just hours after quitting from the Congress.

Mr Madhwaraj, a former MLA and state minister, had resigned from the Congress partyโ€™s primary membership earlier in the day.

Mr Madhwaraj addressed his resignation letter to KPCC president DK Shivakumar stating, โ€œI have decided not to accept the post of vice-presidentship of KPCC and also to tender my resignation from the primary membership of the Congress party.โ€

The former Minster mentioned in the letter โ€œfor the last three years the situation in the Udupi district Congress party has been a bad experience for me thus leading to political suffocation and the facts of which have been brought to your kind notice and informed to other party leaders by me.โ€

โ€œI have observed that no worthwhile steps have been taken by the party to redress my grievances regarding the prevailing situation in the Udupi district Congress party,โ€ Mr Madhwaraj wrote.

Mr Madhwaraj had stated that the โ€˜patternโ€™ in determining Padma awards had altered after the BJP administration took control at the Centre.
