Rahul Gandhi, the Congress President received a lot of flak back here in India after a section of a Nepali private media asserted that he ate non-vegetarian food in Kathmandu while being on his way to Kailash Mansarovar Yatra.
The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) marked its disagreement after the reports surfaced asking the Congress, along with Rahul Gandhi to make an apology to crores of Hindus whose âsentiments have been hurt by his insensitive approachâ while being there on the pilgrimage.
On the other hand, the Congress party has denied all these allegations and all the air that has been going around on the matter that whether or not Rahul consumed non-vegetarian food.
As a matter of fact, so as to put the controversy to rest, the Kathmandu restaurant named Vootoo issued a statement stating that the Congress president ate âonly pure veg foodâ while stopping at the joint for a meal.
The statement read, âThere has been plenty of inquiry from the media regarding the food ordered by Rahul Gandhi, President of Indian National Congress during his visit at Vootoo. We would like to clarify that he ordered pure veg items from the menu. Vootoo has not given any statement to any media regarding the food items ordered by himâ.
This is in contradiction with the reports that were circulated in the Nepali media which alleged that Rahul Gandhi had ordered the Nevai dish plate that consists of ‘chicken kurkure’ and ‘chicken momos’.
After the restaurant made it clear, the Congress issued a statement accusing the BJP of politicizing the incident for âpetty political gainsâ. Terming the controversy to be completely baseless, the party stated that the issue was trumpeted by the BJP so as to defame Rahul Gandhi.
