Lingayat MLAs demand Deputy CM’s post in HD Kumaraswamy’s Cabinet

Bengaluru: The Lingayat MLAs of the Congress-JD(S) alliance have put forward the demand of allotting one of the posts of the Deputy Chief Minister to their community as the Congress-JD(S) government are likely to have two deputy Chief Minister post.

According to the sources, the Congress party has already decided that KPCC president G Parameshwara will be the Deputy Chief Minister in the HD Kumaraswamy cabinet.

“It could be either Shamanur Shivashankarappa or MB Patil who will become the deputy CM in case the party decides to have two deputies to Kumaraswamy,” said a Congress MLA from North Karnataka.

The Congress party which has maximum 16 MLAs belonging to the Lingayat community out of their 78 elected MLAs are likely to the demand as it wants to get rid of the anti Lingayat tag it earned during its last government in Karnataka. Siddaramaiah government was alleged of dividing the Lingayat community after it announced a separate minority religion status to the upper cast Lingayat.
