Lord Ram should not be politicised to gain power: Baba Ramdev

New Delhi | Yoga guru Baba Ramdev ahead of the Supreme Court judgement to a case associated to the Ram Janmabhoomi- Babri dispute has claimed that the identity of Lord Rama should not be politicised by political parties to gain power.

Speaking to media, Baba Ramdev said, ” Lord Ram is an issue of national identity for him rather than a political issue. Ram is our ancestor and pride, honour and prestige.” He further claimed that an individual like Ram who renounced his own kingdom should not be used as a medium to get the throne to power.

Ramdev also spoke on the scheduled verdict of Supreme Court on the case whether namaz or prayers can be offered anywhere or a mosque is essential to the practice of Islam. Taking a neutral stand on the issue Ramdev said,” God can be worshipped anywhere as he is omnipresent. The most important thing that one should believe that our deeds are the biggest worship.” Expressing his faith on the Supreme Court scheduled verdict Ramdev said, “Our legal system is very vigilant, I have a faith in the judiciary and whatever the decision comes will be for good.”

The Constitutional Bench led by Chief Justice Dipak Mishra today will decide on the matter whether namaz or prayers can be offered anywhere – or whether a mosque is an essential part of the practice of Islam and is needed for the congregation and to pray. The bench will rethink on its earlier judgment of 1994 where it said that namaz could be offered anywhere and that a mosque was not necessary for this. The Apex court had ruled that the government could, therefore, if needed, acquire the land that a mosque is built on.
