In Maharashtra’s Latur, NOTA bags second spot with more than 13% vote percentage

Shivsena candidate received 13335 votes. Little did Dhiraj Deshmukh know that his fight was not with the Shivsena candidate but with NOTA.

Latur| The inclusion of ‘None Of The Above’ option while casting vote is debated time and again. The option is given for those who do not want to vote for any of the candidate contesting elections from their respective constituency.

In Maharashtra‘s Latur a surprising number game has come to light where people voted for NOTA in maximum numbers to make it the second-highest vote-getter. Latur is a bastion of Deshmukh family. The constituency was represented by former Maharashtra CM Vilasrao Deshmukh. This time, Congress fielded Dhiraj Deshmukh from this constituency. According to the Election Commission, he received 1,33,161 votes which roughly translates to 67.59% vote percentage.

NOTA

Opposite to him, Shivsena had fielded Ramraje Deshmukh but he couldn’t even get 10% of the total votes polled. He received 13335 votes. Little did Dhiraj Deshmukh know that his fight was not with the Shivsena candidate but with NOTA.

It was the NOTA which emerged as the biggest gainer. NOTA received 27, 287 votes which translate to 13.85% vote share.
