Mamata Banerjee In Trauma After Nandigram Attack, Severe Injuries In Ankle Bones: Doctors

Mamata Banerjee also complained of chest pain and breathlessness after the alleged attack in Nandigram. Doctors said she would be kept under surveillance for the next 48 hours.

 

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was injured during an election campaign in Nandigram on Wednesday after 4-5 men allegedly pushing her and shut the car door on her foot. The incident took place in the evening when Mamata was standing outside a temple in Reyapara. The preliminary report of Mamta Banerjee’s primary medical test came late on Wednesday night, which revealed she suffered multiple injuries. Her left leg has now been plastered. A senior doctor at the Government SSKM Hospital said a first aid test conducted on Mamata Banerjee revealed serious injuries to her left ankle and leg bones. Also, there have been injuries to the right shoulder, neck and wrist.

He said that Mamta Banerjee in the hospital complained of chest pain and breathlessness after the alleged attack in Nandigram. Doctors said she would be kept under surveillance for the next 48 hours. He said the Trinamool Congress chief has a mild fever and has been referred to the special ward in the VVIP block of the hospital soon after an MRI.

A doctor in the team treating Mamata Banerjee said, “We will keep her under observation for the next 48 hours. Many more tests will have to be done for this and after evaluating her condition we will decide their next treatment. On Wednesday night, the doctors did an X-ray of the Chief Minister.”

The state government has formed a team of five senior doctors to treat Banerjee. Banerjee was allegedly attacked in Nandigram in East Midnapore during the election campaign in the evening. The team treating Mamata Banerjee consists of a cardiologist, an endocrinologist, a general surgery doctor, an orthopedist and a medicine doctor. Meanwhile, Election Commission has summoned a report on the attack on Mamata Banerjee.

The Trinamool supremo while talking to reporters said, “I was standing outside my car with the door open. I was going to pray in the temple at Reyapara. Some people came near my car and pushed the door. The door of the car hit my leg.”

Banerjee said that her leg had swollen due to hitting the door. She was also feeling feverish. The Trinamool candidate from Nandigram alleged that there was a political conspiracy behind the incident. She said that no policemen were present on the occasion.
