“Federal Front will work with a Common Minimum Agenda. Even in the past, Deve Gowda became the Prime Minister under a similar arrangement.”
West Bengal CM Mamta Banerjee on Tuesday invited the Congress party to join the newly launched federal front but under some condition. “The Congress could join the front if it accepted the formula of âone-is-to-oneâ, Ms. Banerjee said.
Ms. Banerjee said that she is not too keen at this stage to accept Rahul Gandhiâs leadership, arguing that her future actions would be guided by the people.
In a live video chat on social media, the Trinamool Congress Chief accused the opposition for the violence during filing of nominations for the panchayat polls.
“The violence was masterminded by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M),” said Ms Banerjee.
Banerjee clearly stated that instead of the TMC joining a Congress-led front in the run-up to the 2019 election, the Congress âshouldâ join her Federal Front as there was a precedence of such a front in the past.
âCongress can be part of the Federal Front but they will have to accept the one-is-to-one formula [of putting up one candidate of United Opposition against the BJP]. They [Congress] cannot contest in every seat,â said West Bengal CM.
âWe have to remember that in todayâs context, Congress cannot do anything aloneâŚand there are many parties like ours, like Mayawatiâs, Sharad PawarâsâŚCongress will have to coordinate,â added Banerjee.
