How many hurdles will the BJP place ahead of vote of confidence: P Chidambaram

New Delhi: Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram on Saturday slammed the Bhartiya Janta Party for placing hurdles ahead of the vote of confidence in Karnataka assembly and questioned that how many tricks the Bjp will invent?

In a series of tweet, the former Union Minister said it was due to the Supreme Court the trust vote is being carried out today and it was a commentary that on a purely State matter, the parties do not repose confidence in the state High Court.

Chidambaram also criticized the governor’s decision of allowing BS Yeddyurappa and BJP to form the government. “221 elected men and women cannot decide who among them enjoys the confidence of the majority! Why call ourselves a democracy?” he tweeted.

“First, give us 15 days. Second, Anglo Indian member. Third, secret ballot. Fourth, colluding pro-tem Speaker. Fifth, under invention!” Chidambaram further added.

The Supreme Court bench on Friday ordered for an immediate floor test in the Karnataka assembly till 4 p.m on Saturday after hearing the petition filed by Congress and Janata Dal (Secular) against the decision of Governor Vajubhai Vala for allowing CM Yeddyurappa a 15 day time period to prove majority.

Earlier the BJP emerged as a single largest party with 104 MLAs in the recently concluded assembly election but fell short of the halfway mark of 112 by seven MLAs. The Congress extended its support to JD(S) after the result with 115 MLAs and staked claim to form the government.
