Monsoon Session: Deadlock Continues, Lok Sabha Adjourned Till 2 PM, Rajya Sabha Till Noon

The proceedings of the Lok Sabha have been adjourned till 2 pm. At the same time, the proceedings of Rajya Sabha have been adjourned till 12 noon.

 

The Monsoon Session of Parliament so far has been a tumultuous one. In the first week of the session, both the Houses of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha could not function to the capacity even for a single day. The second week was no different. The session on Monday started on a stormy note in both houses. The opposition has continued to corner the govt over Pegasus espionage, Farmers Protest and raids on the media.

According to notices issued from Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, the government has listed five ordinances for this week’s proceedings. These include

  • Homeopathy Central Council (Amendment) Ordinance,
  • Indian Medicine Central Council (Amendment) Ordinance
  • Air Quality Management Commission in the National Capital Region and Adjoining Areas Ordinance
  • Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (Amendment) Ordinance
  • Essential Defense Services Ordinance

The proceedings of the Lok Sabha have been adjourned till 2 pm. At the same time, the proceedings of Rajya Sabha have been adjourned till 12 noon. The opposition was constantly demanding a discussion on the Pegasus issue. During this, there was a lot of sloganeering.

Rajya Sabha members paid tributes to the martyrs of the Kargil War on the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas. Both, Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha members congratulated weightlifter Mirabai Chanu for winning the silver medal in the Tokyo Olympics.

Rahul Gandhi reached Parliament by riding a tractor

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi reached Parliament by riding a tracker in support of farmers. He said that he is going to Parliament with the message of farmers. “The government has to listen to the voice of the farmers. The government is taking away the rights of the farmers. They are being suppressed,” Rahul Gandhi said.

Opposition sent notices on Pegasus issue

Congress MP Manish Tewari has sent Adjournment Motion Notice to discuss the ‘Pegasus Project’ report in Lok Sabha. Congress MP Manickam Tagore has also given Adjournment Motion Notice in Lok Sabha to debate the alleged use of Pegasus spyware on behalf of the government. At the same time, DMK MP Tiruchi Siva has also given notice of adjournment motion in Rajya Sabha. This notice has been sent for discussion regarding the Pegasus case.

TMC MP Shantun Sen Suspended for Rest of the Session

Earlier on Friday, Trinamool MP Shantanu Sen was suspended for the entire session. This action was taken after Sen snatched statement papers from IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in Rajya Sabha. The monsoon session of Parliament has started on July 19. Since then the Rajya Sabha and the Lok Sabha have been adjourned repeatedly due to uproar.
