New Delhi | Union Minister Prakash Javadekar has called India the most secure country in the world while responding to the Nasseruddin’s Shah recent statement on the Bulandshahr violence.
Taking a dig at Naseeruddin Shah for his statement on the Bulandshahr violence, Javadekar said,” “If anyone feels insecure in the most secure country then it reflects their insecure mentality. The truth is people of this country irrespective of their caste or religion have the freedom to express their views. Therefore, I believe such an accusation is not appropriate.”
The veteran actor in a interview had raised concern over the recent Bulandshahr voilence where a policeman was killed by the angry mob. Shah had said,” At many places the death of a cow is being given more importance than the killing of a policeman. The veteran actor also expressed anxiety over the well-being of his children, who he said have not been brought up as followers of any particular religion.”
Shah has later clarified his statement saying,”I have made the statement as a worried Indian and I have previously made similar remarks. I don’t know for what reason I am being branded as a traitor.”
A mob of some 400 people rampaged through a village in Bulandshahr district apparently after cow carcasses were found in a jungle nearby. During the violence, Inspector Subodh Kumar Singh and a 20-year-old man died of gunshot wounds. Nine people have been arrested in connection with the violence.
