No Action on “Sulli Deals” Shivsena MP writes letter to IT Minister

Mumbai : Shivsena MP Priyanka Chaturvedi again wrote a letter to Union IT minister Ashwini Vaishnaw expressing her concerns over the safety of women’s in the cyber space in India. Her letter comes amid several derogatory incidents against women on digital platforms.

It happens to be more concerning after the recent incident about the “Sulli Deals” where more than 80 Muslim women’s pictures were put up on sale without their consent or knowledge. Priyanka Chaturvedi has sought strong actions against the creators of the app “Sulli Deals”

In the latest letter, the Shiv Sena leader said it is disheartening to see that no written reply or action has been taken as of now despite the sensitivity of the issue. She wrote “I request you to kindly look into this matter as these incidents yet again lay bare the protection and safety of women, especially in cyber space. I look forward to a stringent action in this regard now,”

Earlier, Congress MP Md Jawaid too had requested Home Minister Amit Shah regarding the safety of women on cyber space and to ensure that those found guilty in connection with photos of women being uploaded on the ‘Sulli deals’ app to be brought to the book.

Apparently “Sulli Deals” is an app where women’s pictures were put for a fake auction including students, activists and journalists. “Sulli” is a derogatory term used by right-wing Hindu trolls used for Muslim women.
