“Nothing Political”; Bihar CM Nitish Kumar Attends Opponent RJD’s Iftar Party

Dismissing the speculation about changing political equations in Bihar, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said that there was “nothing political” behind his decision to attend the Iftar party organised at the residence of former Bihar Chief Minister and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Rabri Devi in Patna on Friday.

“Many people are invited to such Iftar parties. What connection does it have with politics? We also hold an Iftar party and invite everyone,” the Bihar CM said.

Nitish Kumar, after a gap of five years, attended the Iftar party of RJD. Mr Kumar, in 2017, had chosen to part ways with RJD and join hands with the saffron party.

Amid speculations about things turning bitter between the JD(U) and the BJP, Mr Kumar attending the Iftar party sent the frenzy high. The BJP and JDU have been at loggerheads over multiple issues such as caste-based census, NDA leadership in Bihar, liquor ban, and law and order situation.

Apart from the CM, BJP leaders Awadhesh Narayan Singh, Syed Shahnawaz Hussain, and Lok Janshakti Party’s (LJP) Chirag Paswan attended the Iftar party.

Tejashwi Yadav, when asked about Mr Kumar’s presence at the party, said that it is a tradition that everyone participates in the Iftar party.

“We have given invitations to all the people whether it is from BJP, JDU or LJP and it has been a tradition that everyone participates in the Iftar party,” said the leader of opposition.
