New Delhi| Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Thursday shared a video message through the #SpeakUpIndia campaign that Congress party is running today on social media, in which different leaders from Congress across the country would post a video through the live demanding centre to put money in the hands of poor and labourers with other demands. In this video message, Gandhi addressed the citizens of the country facing different challenges due to the coronavirus crisis. She also targeted the central government over the issue of migrant workers.
“My dear brothers and sisters, for the last 2 months, the whole country has been going through a severe economic crisis of livelihood and employment due to the challenge and lockdown of the Corona epidemic. For the first time since the independence of the country, everyone saw the pain that millions of labourers were forced to walk back hundreds of thousands of kilometres barefoot, hungry and thirsty, without medicine and means. Their pain, their sob, every heart in the country listened, but perhaps the government did not.”
“Crores of jobs have been lost, millions of businesses have been destroyed, factories are closed, farmers had to stumble to sell crops. The whole country has suffered this pain, but perhaps the government did not even realize it,” she further added.
In her message, she also said, “From day one, all my Congress colleagues, economists, sociologists and every pioneer of society have repeatedly told the government that this is the time to come ahead and heal the wounds. Be it a labourer or farmer, industry or small shopkeeper, it is time for the government to help everyone. Do not know why the central government is constantly refusing to understand and implement this thing.”
Talking about the #SpeakUpIndia campaign that Congress is running today, Sonia said, “Therefore, the Congress colleagues have decided that this social campaign is to be conducted to raise the voice of India. We again urge the Central Government to open the lock of the treasury and provide relief to the needy. Every family should be paid cash directly of Rs 7,500 per month for six months and immediately given Rs 10,000 out of it. ”
She also made a demand to the central government saying, “Make the labourers reach home by arranging safe and free travel and arrange for their livelihood and ration. Ensure 200 days work in MNREGA, which can get employment in the village itself. Instead of giving loans to small and small scale industries, give financial help, so that crores of jobs are saved and the country also progresses.”
Concluding the video message, the Congress President said, “Today in this campaign, Congress supporters, Congress leaders, activists, officials from across the country are repeating these demands in front of the government once again through social media. I request you to also join this campaign, share your problems so that we can raise your voice further. In this hour of crisis, we all are with every countryman and together we will definitely win these difficult situations. Jai Hind!”
