Four senior-most Supreme Court judges including Justice J Chelameswar in their January 12 press conference had suggested for the impeachment motion of Chief Justice Deepak Mishra.
NEW DELHI: Congress leader Gulam Nabi Azad has invited the representatives of all the political parties at 11 who had petitioned President Ram Nath Kovind for the investigation of Justice Loya’s death in February.
After a brief meeting with all the leaders at the parliament complex, the opposition may move the impeachment motion against the chief justice.
The leader of the opposition also has an appointment with Rajya Sabha chairman Venkaiah Naidu around 12 pm. On Thursday after the Supreme Court verdict in the investigation of Justice Loya’s case, the Congress party called it as a “sad letter day”. Opposition leaders said the issue was on the agenda of Friday’s meeting.
Few associate parties such as Trinamool Congress may not be present at the meeting. In a statement, the Trinamool Congress said it was busy with panchayat elections in West Bengal and would not join the discussions.
Around 70 MPs have already signed the petition for the removal of Chief Justice Deepak Mishra during the Budget session. However, some major regional parties had refused to sign up for such harsh action.
