Our goal is common, to beat BJP: Priyanka Gandhi on SP-BSP seat sharing

Prayagraj | Uttar Pradesh General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra breaks silence on BSP Chief Mayawati and SP Chief Akhilesh Yadav’s snub on Congress’s 7 seat offer.

Asked about the matter at a rally, she said, “We don’t want to disturb anybody, we have no problems with anyone. Our goal is to defeat BJP… that is their goal too”.

On Sunday, Congress as a courtesy announced that it would not contest 7 seats from Uttar Pradesh that are currently being contested by top SP-BSP leaders, including Mayawati and Akhilesh Yadav.

The decision comes following SP-BSP’s decision to not contest the two seats of Congress Chief Rahul Gandhi and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi.

Clearing the doubts, Mayawati tweeted, “The Congress should not create confusion by forcibly trying to leave seven seats for the gathbandhan”.

“Congress is free to contest all 80 seats of UP, meaning our alliance is perfectly capable of defeating the BJP on its own,” said the BSP chief.

Akhilesh Yadav supported Mayawati’s statements and tweeted, “The SP-BSP-RLD alliance in Uttar Pradesh is capable of defeating the BJP. Congress shouldn’t create confusion”.

UP will vote in all seven rounds of the April-May national election.
