Chennai | After the Centre’s plan for a three language draft in education plan came out, social media users and political leaders have been opposing it.
According to the plan, Hindi will be made one of the compulsory languages.
The draft national education policy presented by K Kasturirangan Committee to the central government.
The Draft National Education Policy 2019, says while the “three language formula” followed in a section of schools since 1968 should be continued, “children will now be immersed in three languages early on, starting from the Foundational Stage onwards.”
Speaking to reporters here, DMK Lok Sabha member Kanimozhi said her party would oppose any such move.
Reacting to the plan, actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan said, “No language should be imposed and those who are interested can learn any language of their choice”.
“I warn BJP any such move will cause them a huge disaster,” DMK leader MK Stalin said.
AMMK leader TTV Dhinakaran said, “Imposing Hindi on non-Hindi speaking states will destroy pluralism. This would make non-Hindi speakers second class citizens.”
This is not the first time the country has seen outrage in the South over Hindi. There have been protests in the past to prevent the students from learning Hindi against their wishes.
