Paralympian Deepa Malik joins BJP

New Delhi | Paralympian Deepa Malik today joins the Bhartiya Janata Party(BJP) along with INLD chairman Kehar Singh Rawat.

48-year-old Malik became the first Indian woman athlete to win a medal at Paralympics with her silver in the women’s shotput event at the Rio Games in 2016.

Malik and Rawat both joined at the event in the party headquarters in Delhi, in the presence of General Secretary JP national general secretary Dr Anil Jain and Haryana BJP chief Subhash Barala.

“The work that PM Narendra Modi has done for women empowerment and his thoughts towards women, is evident. He has put women in leading portfolios, he has also worked extensively for the divyangs”, she said on joining the party.

Deepa Malik became the first Indian woman athlete to win a medal at Paralympics in the women’s shot put event at the Rio Games.

Deepa Malik joins the league along with other athletes and sportspersons who are joining various political parties ahead of the Lok Sabha elections to be held next month, the most recent being former batsman Gautam Gambhir also joining the BJP.
