Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan demands to bring petrol,diesel under GST

Bhubaneshwar | Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Monday demanded that both Petrol and diesel should be brought under the Goods and Service Tax.

Expressing his concern over the rising fuel prices Petroleum minister said,” I want petrol and diesel to come under the ambit of GST. The GST Council should take a decision on this. State governments are more powerful than the Centre in the GST council meeting.”

The Central government has come under severe criticism after the daily increase in the fuel prices. In Delhi petrol is sold at Rs 82.06 per litre and Diesel is sold at Rs 73.78 per litre. While in Mumbai, petrol is sold at Rs. 89.29 per litre and Diesel is sold at Rs 78.33 per litre.

Pradhan during his visit to Odisha’s Jharsuguda asked CM Navin Patnaik to ‘reduce VAT on petrol and diesel like other state governments.’ The Union Minister further informed that the ‘central government had already deducted excise duty on petrol and diesel a few months ago’.
