New Delhi | Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra today submitted a breach of privilege motion against Zee News and its Editor in Chief Sudhir Chaudhary over false reporting of her maiden speech in Lok Sabha.
Moitra moving the motion said, “I have submitted a breach of privilege motion today against Zee TV and its editor Sudhir Chaudhary for falsely reporting my maiden address in this House.” However, speaker OM Birla disallowed the breach of privilege motion.
Reacting to the speaker decision, Moitra on her Twitter account wrote,”The reason there is so much of mudslinging and lies sold as news to unsuspecting public all over is because the perpetrators are allowed impunity by the powers that be. But truth shall prevail. Oh yes, it will.”

Earlier Moitra responding to the allegations said that the speech came from her heart and rather blamed the BJP’s troll army for propagating the charges to shield actual problems. Moitra in an issued statement said,” Plagiarism is when one does not disclose one’s source. My source as mentioned categorically in my speech was the poster from the Holocaust Museum created by the political scientist Dr. Laurence W. Brit pointing out the 14 signs of early fascism. I found 7 signs relevant to India and spoke at length about each of them.”
Speaking to media on allegations that her maiden speech in Parliament was plagiarized, Moitra quoted American commentator Martin Longman’s tweet “right-wing a**holes seem to be similar in every country.” Moitra also shared the tweet on her twitter handle tagging Zee News Editor in Chief Sudhir Chaudhary who accused her of plagiarism.
Sudhir Chaudhary had accused the TMC MP of plagiarising her maiden speech from an American website article my Martin Longman about early warning signs of Fascism.
