PM Modi likely to contest 2019 Lok Sabha election from Puri: Odisha BJP MLA

New Delhi | Adding to the rumors related to the change of parliamentary constituency for Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the upcoming 2019 election, a BJP MLA from Odisha has claimed that there is a possibility of PM Modi contesting from Puri in Odisha.

Speaking to news agency ANI, Odisha BJP MLA Pradip Purohit has said, “There is a 90 percent possibility of Modi ji contesting 2019 Lok Sabha elections from Puri. People of Puri want him to contest from here.”

The statement has come after BJP Odisha unit president Basant Panda had said that the state unit has proposed to field the prime minister from Puri. Out of the 21 Lok Saha seat in Odisha, BJP has just 1 seat on Sundargarh while the Navin Patnaik led Biju Janta Dal (BJD) holds 20 seats of Lok Sabha.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the last Lok Sabha election contested from 2 constituencies Varanasi and Vadodara. PM Modi had defeated Congress’ Madhusudan Mistry by a heavy margin of 5,70,128 votes in Vadodara. While in Varanasi he defeated Aam Aadmi Party’s Arvind Kejriwal by 3,71,784 votes. He later dropped the Vadodara constituency.
