PM Modi to meet Arun Jaitley; likely to convince him to stay in cabinet

New Delhi | Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be meeting BJP leader Arun Jaitley ahead of the swearing-in ceremony on May 30th.

According to sources, PM Modi will drive down to Arun Jaitley’s residence around 8.30 PM today.” Sources further added that PM is likely to ask Arun Jaitley to reconsider his earlier decision of withdrawl from the cabinet and remain in Government.

Arun Jaitley earlier told Prime Minister Narendra Modi that he is refusing his ministerial duties in the new Modi Government that will take an oath tomorrow, citing health concerns.

In a letter to the Prime Minister, now-former Finance Minister said that it has been a great honour and a learning experience for him to be part of his government. “During the last eighteen months, I have had some serious health challenges. My doctors have enabled me to emerge out of most of them”, the letter read.

The letter states that he had told PM Modi earlier that even though he was able to discharge duties to others, he would like to take some time away from responsibilities, to concentrate on his health.

“I am writing to you to formally request you that I should be allowed a reasonable time for myself, my treatment and my health, and therefore not be a part of any responsibility”, Arun Jaitley wrote.

However, he ended the letter saying that he would informally carry out a duty for the government if something needed attention.

Jaitley’s letter comes following the speculations that he would not be continuing his post of the Finance Minister due to his ill health.
