New Delhi| The Enforcement Directorate action on Sharad Pawar has stirred up Maharashtra politics ahead of the assembly polls in the state next month. As Sharad Pawar readies to visit ED office today, NCP workers are staging protests in parts of the city. The party has said this is nothing but a political vendetta. Now, the NCP’s ally in the state Congress has come forward to defend him.
Attacking the BJP for the ED case on Pawar, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said that the vindictive government is trying to target one more opposition leader. He also said that the action comes just ahead of Maharashtra assembly elections which reeks of “political opportunism”.
Sharad Pawar Ji is the latest Opposition leader to be targeted by a vindictive Government. The timing of this action, a month before elections in Maharashtra, reeks of political opportunism. https://t.co/XCW0GsdXjj

Sharad Pawar has been named by the ED in a case related to the Maharashtra State Cooperative Bank Scam case. The ED has registered a case on NCP chief, his nephew Ajit Pawar and 70 others in connection with the scam.
Sharad Pawar, however, said that he welcomes the ED action. He announced that he will visit the ED office on Friday despite not being summoned by the agency.
