Praful Patel alleges, EVM failure due to extreme heat ‘shocking’

Vidhrabha: NCP leader Praful Patel on Monday said that he was “shocked” at claims that the machines had failed because of excessive heat. About 4 EVMs alleged failed in the ongoing by polls at the Bhandara-Gondia Lok Sabha seat in Maharashtra.

Speaking to Media, the Senior NCP leader questioned that “In April too, it is 45 degrees. Do you mean to say we should not have elections in summer?”

The Nationalist Congress Party has formally complained to the Election Commision that 25 per cent of the machines didn’t work. Due to the failure of the EVMs voting was stopped in many parts of the constituency.

Praful Patel also said that “In many big European nations, election commissions have rejected the EVMs and gone back to ballot paper system. SP leader Akhilesh Yadav ji just called me up, he also said 300 EVMs not working in Kairana bypoll.”

Mr. Patel pointed out that VVPAT or Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail machines, which eject slips to confirm the voter’s choice were not functioning. “As and when re-polling takes place, will we be able to count every slip,” asked the NCP leader.

Bye-elections are been conducted in Bhandara-Gondia along with 3 other Lok Sabha Constituencies and 10 assembly constituencies. The results will come out on May 31
