President Kovind, PM Modi, leaders express grief over demise of Ananth Kumar

New Delhi | President Ramnath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress president Rahul Gandhi along with various other political leader on Monday expressed their condolence over the demise of Union Minister and BJP leader Ananth Kumar.

President Ramnath Kovind expressed the demise of Ananth Kumar as a ‘tragic loss to the public life’, He wrote,”Sad to hear of the passing of Union minister and veteran parliamentarian Shri H.N. Ananth Kumar. This is a tragic loss to public life in our country and particularly for the people of Karnataka. My condolences to his family, colleagues and countless associates.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Twitter wrote, “Ananth Kumar Ji was an able administrator, who handled many ministerial portfolios and was a great asset to the BJP organisation. He worked hard to strengthen the Party in Karnataka, particularly in Bengaluru and surrounding areas. He was always accessible to his constituents.”


Expressing his condolence Congress President Rahul Gandhi wrote,”I’m sorry to hear about the passing of Union Minister, Shri Ananth Kumar ji, in Bengaluru, earlier this morning. My condolences to his family & friends. May his soul rest in peace. Om Shanti.”

Speaking to media on the demise of Ananth Kumar, LokSabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan termed Kumar death as a major loss not only to the party but politics as a whole. She said,” It is a personal loss for me. I depended a lot on Ananth Kumar to run parliament smoothly. Finding a party worker & efficient minister like him is difficult. He is a major loss not only to the party but politics as a whole.”


Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said that it was due to Ananth Kumar that the Bhartiya Janta party got its first foothold established in southern parts of India. Speaking to media he said,”The demise of Ananth Kumar is a great loss to the country, to the state of Karnataka, to the govt&my party. He was a leader of very high standing within the BJP. It was under his leadership that the party got its first foothold established in southern parts of India.”


Veteran BJP leader Lal Krishna Advani called Kumar a dynamic leader of the poor & downtrodden. He said,”I’m extremely shocked and saddened by the untimely demise of Union Minister Ananth Kumar. Ananth Kumar was a very popular, dynamic leader of the poor & downtrodden. May the departed soul rest in peace.”

Calling Ananth Kumar a remarkable administrator BJP president Amit Shah wrote,”Ananth ji was a remarkable administrator who served various ministerial portfolios. His passing away has left a void in the BJP and Indian polity that can not be filled soon. May God give his family & supporters strength to bear this tragic loss. My deepest condolences. Om Shanti”

Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar passed away at the age of 59 at a private hospital on Monday after battling lung cancer for several months at the Sankara Hospital in Bengaluru. He had come back to Bengaluru only recently after undergoing treatment in the US and Britain.
