New Delhi | Criticising Union government over the deaths of soldiers in recent attacks in Kashmir, Samajwadi Party Chief and Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav said that the first priority of the government should be providing bulletproof jackets to the soldiers rather the focus on the bullet trains.
Addressing a press conference, Akhilesh Yadav said,” Today the country don’t require bullet trains, then priority is that the soldiers get bulletproof jackets.” Yadav further questioned the failure of the intelligence agencies and urged the union government to formulate a long term strategy to secure borders. He said,” Why is Intelligence failing? You can’t compensate for loss of lives. The nation is with security forces&jawans. If all political parties have put their political events on hold, ruling party should do the same & form a long term strategy to secure borders.”

Akhilesh Yadav’s criticism has come after 40 CRPF personnel were killed in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district in a terrorist attack when a Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorist identified as Adil Ahmed rammed an explosives-laden vehicle into the bus they were travelling in. More than 2,500 Central Reserve Police Force personnel, many of them returning from leave to rejoin duty in the Valley, were travelling in the convoy of 78 vehicles when they were ambushed on the Srinagar-Jammu highway at Latoomode in Awantipora.
