Gandhi during an election rally in Karnataka in April 2019 had said, “I have a question. Why do all thieves have Modi in their names whether be it Nirav Modi, Lalit Modi, and Narendra Modi? We don’t know how many more such Modis will come out.”
Sushil Modi stating that the statement by Gandhi defames and hurts the sentiment of everyone who has Modi surname filed a defamation case against him.
Earlier Rahul Gandhi on July 4 was granted bail by the Mazgaon Metropolitan Magistrate court after pleading not guilty in a defamation case filed by an RSS worker for allegedly linking journalist Gauri Lankesh’s killing with the “BJP-RSS ideology”.
Addressing the reporters after the hearing Gandhi said,”, “I didn’t say anything in court, I had to appear. It’s a fight of ideology, I’m standing with the poor & farmers.’ Aakraman ho raha hai, mazaa aa raha hai’. I’ll fight 10 times harder than I did in the last 5 years.”
