On Thursday evening Rahul Gandhi tweeted, “Like millions of Indians my heart hurts tonight. India simply cannot continue to treat its women the way it does.” He also called for a peaceful candlelight march at Delhi’s India Gate to protest the “violence and demand justice for the victims”.

The midnight vigil received a quite good response with hundreds of people flocking the India Gate in the support of the protest. Senior Congress leaders like Digvijay Singh, Ambika Soni, Ghulam Nabi Azad were present at the march too.

It cannot go unpunished.” “What have we become if we allow politics to interfere with such unimaginable brutality perpetrated on an innocent child?” Rahul Gandhi asked.
