Rahul Gandhi mocks Indian army for posting photo of dogs, draws criticism from BJP

New Delhi | Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Friday, mocked the Indian army for sharing a photograph which showed the army personnel doing Yoga along with dogs.

“New India,” Gandhi captioned his tweet, a not-so-subtle sarcastic reference to one of the Narendra Modi government’s popular slogans.

Today is the International Yoga Day, and the Modi government has stretched it efforts on promoting Yoga, including all the army and ministers. They have all shared their photographs on social media.

The Congress president’s distasteful tweet drew a sharp reaction from Bharatiya Janata Party MP Tejasvi Surya. “Ok. He still hasn’t learnt his lessons. In one go, he has insulted our Army, brave Jawans, the incredible dog unit, Yoga tradition & our country,” Surya said in a tweet. “I feel really sad for all the young Congress workers (if there are any left) that they have to deal with this man as their leader.”

BJP Chief Amit Shah also hit out at his Congress counterpart and accused the party of “standing for negativity”.

BJP Spokesperson joined the herd and pointed out that “every dog is not a Pidi”.

He wrote,”New India indeed …but Same/Shame Rahul..disrespects India..India’s tradition..India’s Army ..Rahul Gandhi ji ..every Dog is not just a PIDI who tweets only for the Gandhi family Scion. These are just not Dogs Sir ..they are those who fight for OUR INDIA ..Salute them!!”

Minister of State (Independent Charge) of Youth Affairs & Sports and Minister of State for Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju also condemned his tweet. He wrote, “I have no words to condemn it. I just can’t believe that someone can ridicule own Armed Forces! But then it’s not new for Congress Party and Tukde-Tukde gang to insult, abuse and question our Armed Forces”.

Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi’s future as Congress president remains uncertain. The Congress chief is reportedly firm on his decision to step down from his post, and speculations are already arising on the next Congress leader.
