Rahul Gandhi to hold his first election rally in Jharkhand today

According to Congress sources, Rahul Gandhi will address one rally in each of the four remaining phases on December 7, 12, 16 and 20

New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will be addressing his first rally in Jharkhand on Monday which is voting for a new assembly in five phases.

The very first rally is scheduled at Simdega district at 1.30 pm at Bazartand Ground, where the former Congress chief will campaign for party candidate Bhushan Bara.

Congress candidate Bhushan Bara is fighting against BJP’s Shraddhanand Besra in the battle.

The rally comes after two days the first of the five-phase polling, which witnessed 62 percent turnout, with no major incident of violence in Maoist-hit Jharkhand.

According to Congress sources, Rahul Gandhi will address one rally in each of the four remaining phases on December 7, 12, 16 and 20.

The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha and Rashtriya Janta Dal is contesting the assembly polls in alliance with the Congress.

Congress is contesting 31 out of 81 seats in the state. The JMM is fighting 43 and the RJD the other seven.

Meanwhile, the ruling BJP is campaigning aggressively with Prime Minister Narendra Modi its main campaigner, while Union Home Minister and BJP chief Amit Shah and several other senior party leaders have also addressed rallies in the state.

Jharkhand assembly elections are being held in five phases and the first was completed on Saturday.

There are 81 constituencies in Jharkhand, out of which 20 will go for polling in the second phase on December 7.
